The communist state of Arstotzka has just ended a 6-year war with neighboring Kolechia and reclaimed its rightful half of the border town, Grestin. Your job as immigration inspector is to control the flow of people entering the Arstotzkan side of Grestin from Kolechia. In Papers, Please we play as an employee in the Ministry of Immigration, and we are the ones in charge of deciding who gets in and who doesn’t. Yes, we are a simple government agent, our job is to place a stamp on the documents of these people, allowing them to get in, or getting them out of our country. Using only the documents provided by travelers and the Ministry of Admission’s primitive inspect, search, and fingerprint systems you must decide who can enter Arstotzka and who will be turned away or arrested.Working 12 Hours a day, you’ll have to ask some questions and verify that everything to judge who can get through and enter the country. Keep in mind that this will be getting tougher and tougher by the day and that you only get paid by the number of papers you stamp.

Papers, Please is the best example I can give of videogames as Art. It may not have the most appealing graphics or gameplay (even though I personally like both very much) but it achives what it strives for: to express a sentiment, which is what I think Art is all about. While playing this game I felt bad when denying some people, but I had to because I also hae a family to support, and no game has made me feel bad for a random npc, I just met three seconds ago, normally I’ll kill them and laugh, but not here. Try this game even if you think you’ll find it boring, most likely you won’t.
